Should You Be Investing In An Air Conditioning Filter For Your Home?
Whether you rent or own your home, it’s imperative that you change your air conditioner filter on a regular basis. Along with other maintenance tasks in your home, this is one of the most important. Without routine maintenance and replacement you could damage or even break your entire air conditioning unit. This sounds extreme, but it can happen. And therein lies the problem... HVAC technicians can always tell if the unit broke due to neglect. And, if this is the case, your unit is no longer under warranty, resulting in an expensive repair job or replacement of the whole unit. Apart from the fear of having to replace an entire air conditioning unit, there are other advantages to changing your air conditioner filter on a regular basis. Firstly, the cleaner your filter is, the cleaner the air is that you inhale. This is logical of course. Air filters catch all the particles we cannot see with the naked eye. Over a period of time, these particles build up and sit on the filter, eventually moving to the unit itself. The more dust and dirt you have on the filter, the greater your chances of inhaling this same dirt. As the air flows through the unit, it has to push through the filter, and eventually will start pushing these particles back into the house. When an air conditioner filter gets clogged due to lack of replacement, the air conditioning unit has to work much harder to push the air through. Say, for example, that your unit used to run15 minutes every hour to keep your house at a certain temperature. With a dirty filter it could take twice as long to keep your house at the same temperature. Not only are you damaging the unit, but you are increasing your electric / gas bill at the same time. Therefore, it is always more cost effective to buy a $5 filter twelve times a year. On the same note, the air that is pushed out is cooler / hotter with a clean filter. So, not only are you preventing unexpected cost over time, but you are experiencing the highest quality air your unit can process. If your air conditioner filter is full, cold air / hot air will not be able to seep through. Maintenance goes hand in hand with the efficiency of your unit. This article will hopefully prompt you to remember to change, or at least clean, your filter on a monthly basis to ensure the efficiency of your home’s temperature and air quality together with your budget. It may seem like a mundane task, but it will save you money in the long run. Simply replace your filter, once a month, when you pay your rent or mortgage, and you’ll be set. No need to worry about unexpected HVAC bills. In addition to this of course, you are not keeping nasty germs and viruses locked inside the walls of your home.
